The Second Sight Project is a blindness prevention program that aims to assist people who have been on a public hospital waiting list for an extended period to access basic cataract surgery.
Criteria to be considered for Second Sight surgery include:
- Evidence of significant visual impairment due to cataracts.
- The ophthalmologist must be satisfied that the patient is financially disadvantaged and has tried to access surgery through the public health system.
- Clinically complex patients are not considered for Second Sight surgery.
