The Second Sight Project is a blindness prevention program that aims to assist people who have been on a public hospital waiting list for an extended period to access basic cataract surgery.
Criteria to be considered for Second Sight surgery include:
Evidence of significant visual impairment due to cataracts.
The ophthalmologist must be satisfied that the patient is financially disadvantaged and has tried to access surgery through the public health system.
Clinically complex patients are not considered for Second Sight surgery.
